O’Connell Street
Clerys Clock, a
large clock of two faces above central doors of the Clerys department store, founded
in 1853 and finally closed on 12 June 2015. The famous old clock (designed by
the watchmaker Christopher Stokes of Cork), a symbol of the city, mentioned by
Joyce and other writers, was replaced by this in October 1990.
