Statue of King Dinis I of Portugal (Lisbon, 9 October
1261 - Santarém, 7 January 1325), founder of the first Portuguese University in
Lisbon (1 March 1290), moved to Coimbra in
1308 and definitively installed in this city in 1537. The sculpture
is a work of 1943 by artist Francisco Franco (Funchal, Madeira,
9 October 1885 - Lisbon, 15 February 1955).
