Trg bana Jelačića
Monument to Josip Jelačić (Petrovaradin, Vojvodina, 16
October 1801 - Zagreb, 20 May 1859), which was ban (governor) of the Austrian
Empire in Croatia from 23 March 1848 until 19 May 1859, and is considered a
national hero by the Croatian people. The sculpture is a work of the German-Austrian
sculptor Anton Dominik Fernkorn (Erfurt, 17 March 1813 - Vienna, 16 November
1878). The monument was unveiled on 19 October 1866.
