Monument to the Spanish general Juan (Joan) Prim i Prats (Reus, 1814 - Madrid, assassinated, December 30, 1870). He was a Spanish liberal soldier and politician who became president of the Council of Ministers and Minister of War (1868-1870). He had previously been Governor of Puerto Rico (1847-1848). He participated, as a soldier, in the First Carlist War (1834-1849) and in the Spanish–Moroccan War (1859-1860). He also stood out as a liberal politician.
This monument was created with an architectural design by Josep Fontseré (1829-1897), while the sculptural part was made by Lluís Puiggener (1847-1918) between 1882 and 1887. The original work was destroyed in 1936, it was replaced in 1948 by another elaborate one by the Catalan sculptor Frederic Marès (1893-1991).
