MONTAGNOLA (Canton Ticino), Switzerland

Monument to the Latvian poet and politician Rainis [Jānis Pliekšāns] (Jēkabpils, 11.9.1865 – Majori, Jūrmala, 12.9.1929) and his wife Aspazija [Emīlija Rozenberga] (Zaļenieku, 16.3.1865 – Jūrmala, 5.11.1943). 
The author of the monument is the Swiss architect Cino Chiesa (1905-1971), and the bronze elements were made by the Latvian sculptor Jānis Plāte. 
The monument was inaugurated on 9 September 1972.
