Centennial memorial of the Spanish Constitution of
1812: central column. It was made in 1912 by the architect Modesto López Otero
(Valladolid, 24 February 1885 - Madrid, 23 December 1962) and
the sculptor Aniceto Marinas (Segovia, 17 April 1866 - Madrid, 23 September 1953). The central figure represents “La Pepa” (the popular name of that Constitution). Below, under the shield of Spain, is an empty throne, symbolizing the absence of a king. The sculptural group on the left represents the Agriculture, and on the right, citizens who go to battle. At the top, two classic figures hold the text of the Constitution.
