BADALONA (Catalonia), Spain.
Passeig Marítim. Pont del Petroli.
Sculpture "Anís del Mono", by the local artist Susana Ruiz Blanch (2011-12), installed on the Pont del Petroli, an old jetty in Badalona built in 1879 for unloading oil products from tankers, which was remodeled in 1965 and 2009. The sculpture reproduces the advertising figure for the anise brand "Anís del Mono", whose factory (from 1870) is nearby. The 200-kilogram figure represents an anthropomorphic monkey holding a bottle of anise, which was originally a mockery of Darwin's theory of evolution. The sculpture was unveiled on 7 July 2012.
